Our verdict
Moon Card was an early option for spending Bitcoin through Lightning on virtual Visa cards. It works for fast, private crypto-to-card top-ups, but recent reliability problems call for caution.
What we like
- +Lightning support allows instant, nearly free Bitcoin transfers
- +No monthly or membership charges
- +Single-use cards from just $1.49
- +Keeps personal details hidden from merchants

Watch out for
- −Recent reports of suspended accounts and refund trouble
- −Virtual cards only, no physical version
- −$4,000 monthly cap across all cards
- −One-time cards lapse after 2 months
- −Trustpilot reviews raise reliability doubts

Moon Card, founded in 2018, long drew praise from privacy-minded and international users for its email-only signup, Lightning support and easy Amazon checkout. That goodwill collapsed in December 2025, when the service went offline, cancelled active virtual cards and froze balances all at once. Users then reported being asked for face scans and government ID at withdrawal, despite the no-KYC pitch, and said refunds stayed pending for months while support went unanswered. One person reported losing more than $5,000. The $1.00 minimum fee on the Moon X card also makes small purchases, such as a $5.00 subscription, poor value. The Chrome extension has seen no major update since 2023 and there is no mobile app or Apple and Google Pay. Sentiment is strongly negative, and the card is widely seen as a serious counterparty risk until the frozen funds are resolved.
